What Collapse?

Walk into the Met clubhouse this spring, and there’s a team on a mission. Almost to a man, the team seems determined to erase any bad memories of last season by coming through in 2008. The collapse is not mentioned, nor is any hangover lingering. The offseason helped with the acquisitions of Johan Santana with Ryan Church and Brian Schneider also coming over in a trade. Maybe, new blood is what the Mets needed in order to turn the page and start 2008 off right.

Meet the New Joe, Not the Same as the Old Joe

With so much offseason turmoil for the New York Yankees, it’s funny to see essentially the same team that lost to the Cleveland Indians take the field in Tampa. Alex Rodriguez is still here, as is Andy Pettitte. Jason Giambi will be at first and Hideki Matsui will slot into the DH slot. But really, everything else is somewhat the same. Oh, there is the manager. Joe Torre is gone and Joe Girardi is now manning the helm. It will be very interesting to see how the veteran Yankees react to working for a guy who was their teammate only a few years ago. And also, how will Girardi react to the criticism that comes from managing the New York Yankees? He couldn’t survive in Florida, what about Gotham?

Come Clean, Roger… Even If You Aren’t

Sergeant Joe Friday would implore “All we want are the facts, ma’am,” in what seemed to be nearly every episode of “Dragnet.” That is precisely what we all want in the Roger Clemens steroids scandal. While there may never be that proverbial ‘smoking gun’ type of evidence, it is quite clear that The Rocket is not being totally forthcoming when his staunch denials of using performance-enhancing drugs are questioned.
