Koepka Conquers: Brooks Koepka moves up to No. 2 in the FedExCup standings with his victory at the PGA Championship

Continuing a dominant run unseen since Tiger Woods a decade prior, Brooks Koepka won his fourth major championship in the last two years with a two-shot victory over Dustin Johnson at the PGA Championship on Sunday. With the win, Koepka earned 600 FedExCup points and moved up to No. 2 in the FedExCup standings. Koepka is once again qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs, which begin at THE NORTHERN TRUST at Liberty National Golf Club August 6-11.
Koepka has advanced to THE NORTHERN TRUST and the FedExCup Playoffs each of the last four years but has never won THE NORTHERN TRUST. His best finish at the premier playoff event was T8 last year. Now ranked No. 1 in the World Golf Ranking, Koepka has finished in the top 10 in the FedExCup Playoffs in back-to-back years but is in search of his first overall title. In 12 starts this season, Koepka has two wins, two runners-up and only one missed cut.  He has now won four of his last 22 starts on the PGA TOUR. Courtesy of back-to-back victories at the PGA Championship, Koepka joins Tiger Woods as the only players ever to successfully defend.
Dustin Johnson, the 2011 and 2017 champion of THE NORTHERN TRUST, posted his second consecutive runner-up finish at a major championship. With his seventh top-10 of the season, Johnson moved up to No. 5 in the FedExCup standings as he vies for his first career FedExCup title.
THE 2010 NORTHERN TRUST champion Matt Kuchar continues to hold the top spot in the FedExCup standings with his seventh top-10 of the season after a T8 finish at the PGA Championship. With wins at both the Mayakoba Golf Classic and the Sony Open in Hawaii, Kuchar has now held the FedExCup lead every week since his runner-up finish at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in late March. Kuchar, who finished T60 at THE NORTHERN TRUST last year, is building a strong position for the FedExCup Playoffs this August after failing to advance to the TOUR Championship for the first time since 2009 in 2018.
Bryson DeChambeau, THE NORTHERN TRUST’s defending champion, missed the cut at the PGA Championship and is 24th in the FedExCup standings. The five-time PGA TOUR winner won each of the first two FedExCup Playoffs events in 2018.
When the PGA TOUR’s top-125 golfers return to Liberty National Golf Club August 6-11, the pressure-packed drama will be unlike anything previously experienced at this event. With the change in the FedExCup Playoffs structure from four to three events, only 70 (compared to 100 previously) will advance to the next event.
With less than three months remaining until the FedExCup Playoffs begin at THE NORTHERN TRUST, here’s a look at the current top 20 in the FedExCup standings.
