Professional Boxing Returns to Nassau Coliseum on July 15th

By Joanne Phillips and Bryan Revello

Professional Boxing will return to the newly renovated Nassau Coliseum for the first time in 31 years on July 15, 2017 and Fox Sports will nationally televise this nostalgic event.

A press conference was held at the Coliseum last week highlighting one of the feature bouts on the upcoming card – locals Marcus Browne of Staten Island against Sean Monaghan of Long Beach, Long Island.

Browne (19-0, 14 KOs) and Monaghan (28-0, 17 KOs) have a personal relationship having come up together through the local ranks and having sparred many times throughout the years. It is also anticipated that the winner of this bout will become the next challenger to WBC champion Adonis Stevenson.

The July 15th card also features Omar Figueroa (26-0-1, 18 KOs) vs. Roberto Guerrero (35-5-1, 18 KOs) as the main event. Most of the boxers on the undercard are from Long Island including the intriguing female boxer Alicia “the Empress” Napoleon.

New York Sportscene’s Joanne Phillips was on hand at the press conference and had a chance to grab exclusive interviews with Monaghan and Napoleon. Enjoy!
