Today is “National Pinot Noir Day” so let’s celebrate this tasty varietal, which happens to be my personal favorite and a tasty respite after a day of sports and fitness. I know there are many other “Pinot People” out there who also adore California wines, so I wanted to mark the occasion by telling you about a few great options from Mark West Wines—a winery known for producing really great Pinot Noirs at an affordable price.
First is the “Mark West California Pinot Noir,” which I especially love for outdoor grilling. It’s a great option for those Labor Day celebrations up ahead, not to mention tailgating season. This medium-bodied, fruity red, with scents of spice, dark fruit, and cassis, is rich in texture and has a lingering finish. The majority of fruit comes from the central coast of California, including the Russian River Valley, Carneros, Santa Lucia Highlands appellations. So, you can’t go wrong there. It pairs perfectly with grilled summer dishes like burgers or grilled meats. Personally, I never need an excuse to open a bottle of wine, but since the nation is celebrating Pinot Noir this week I wanted to be a good patriot and do my duty. On that note, it’s also a super sipper while watching the Olympics. With a price point of just $10.99, you can stock up for the entire holiday season ahead.
Another really great option is the “Mark West Black” Pinot Noir, which is a deeper and darker option that’s great for those who prefer a bolder flavor palate. It’s full-bodied, rich, and smooth, with notes of black cherries, plums, mocha, vanilla and caramel. This wine pairs perfectly with grilled lamb chops, gourmet flatbread pizza and pulled pork sandwiches and is fantastic for those backyard BBQs. Also affordable, you can nab a bottle of this dark-side Pinot Noir for just $14.99.
Having been founded in 1978, Mark West’s passion for Pinot Noir shines through with each sip. You can check them out online to find a retailer near you at www.MarkWestWines.com. There’s also great recipes on that site to pair with your wine, even dessert items, so check it out!
