NEW YORK YANKEES
Final Score: LA Angels of Anaheim 2, New York 1
Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Albert Pujols and Erick Aybar hit back-to- back homers off Ivan Nova in the sixth inning, and the Angels beat the Yankees 2-1 in the middle installment of a three-game series. The blasts helped Andrew Heaney (1-0) earn his first big-league win in his seventh career start. Heaney made his season debut last week in place of the injured Jered Weaver and spun six quality innings. The 24-year-old lefty was even better on Tuesday, striking out seven over as many innings and allowing just two hits and two walks.
NEW YORK METS
Final Score: Chicago 1, New York 0
Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Kyle Hendricks tossed six shutout innings and the Chicago Cubs blanked the New York Mets 1-0 in the opener of a three- game set. Hendricks (3-4) struck out six, scattered three hits and walked one for the Cubs, who snapped a five-game skid. Their 19 one-run wins this season are the most in MLB. Jason Motte fired the ninth to notch his third save of the year. Jon Niese (3-8) allowed a run on four hits and four walks over seven innings for New York, which had its four-game winning streak come to an end.
