NEW YORK YANKEES
Final Score: New York 2, Seattle 1
Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Mark Teixeira’s home run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning snapped a tie game and ultimately gave the New York Yankees a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners. Teixeira crushed a two- strike fastball from Fernando Rodney (2-4) into the right-field seats to break a 1-1 deadlock, and the lead held up when Andrew Miller tossed a perfect ninth to close out New York’s sixth triumph in eight games. The blast made a winner out of Dellin Betances (6-2) after the All-Star reliever tossed a scoreless top of the eighth. The Yankees also received a solid start out of CC Sabathia, who held Seattle to a run on six hits and struck out seven over six innings. Teixeira finished 3-for-4 to help New York claim the rubber match of this three-game set, with Carlos Beltran contributing an RBI single in his return from the disabled list. Mariners ace Felix Hernandez wasn’t able to pick up his 12th win of the season despite allowing just one run and fanning five in six innings. Austin Jackson knocked in Seattle’s lone run with an RBI single in the fifth.
