- Luis Severino pitched really well following his first real “bad start” of the season. This is another strong quality that the youngster has now shown which exemplifies why he may be the Yankees hottest young starting pitcher in many generations. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. The Yankees are an organization that have always relied on big offense which is why the best pitchers in Yankees’ history are not on par with the best pitchers in MLB history. Could this kid be the one for them? In this day and age staying with one team is anything but a certainty. The good news is that he will be under team control for his first six seasons which means the team has a lot to look forward to in the next couple of years.
- It’s nice to have a really meaningful Subway Series again for the first time in what seems like many years. In the day to day of things, the Mets are looking like a stronger contender to be playing in late October than the Yanks. However, the reality remains that if both teams make the postseason we can possibly have the first World Series Subway Series since 2000 and this time with the Mets as the favorite. That sounds like a lot of fun. Seems like a stretch at the moment but crazier things have happened.
- The loss of Mark Teixeira is definitely a big blow but the good play of 22-year-old Greg bird cannot be overlooked. The Yanks and Bird both never expected he would be forced into such an important role this early but high expectation for his future have been validated with the strong play we have seen so far.
