Tanaka headed to DL with forearm strain

Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – New York Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka will be placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right forearm, general manager Brian Cashman told reporters during Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

An MRI taken on Tanaka’s right wrist revealed the strain but was otherwise negative, according to the YES Network. Cashman stated during the game that the 2014 All-Star will likely be sidelined for at least a month.

Tanaka is already pitching through a slight tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, an injury that limited the Japanese star to just two starts after the All-Star break last season but hasn’t affected his performance through the first few weeks of this campaign.

In four starts thus far in 2015, Tanaka has posted a 2-1 record with a 3.22 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .175 average. The 26-year-old had yielded just one run and five hits over 13 1/3 innings in his two most recent outings.
