Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Red Bull New York claimed a fourth win in five games on Saturday at the Citrus Bowl with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Orlando City SC.
Sacha Kljestan’s goal after 21 minutes put New York in front, while Cyle Larin was sent off for the home side in the 32nd, leaving Orlando with plenty of work to do.
Mike Grella then put the finishing touches on the victory with a goal in stoppage time to hand Orlando a second straight defeat.
Carlos Rivas nearly put Orlando in front 15 minutes into the match when some nice work from Kaka set him up for a shot that clipped the outside of the post.
But New York went in front six minutes later when Kljestan sent a rocket into the top right corner of the net from 25 yards with a splendid strike that left goalkeeper Tally Hall with little chance.
Things got worse 11 minutes later when Larin came in on Kljestan with his studs up in a challenge at midfield, earning the Orlando man an early exit.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Cristian Higuita nearly equalized in the 81st with a shot that was tipped onto the near post by goalkeeper Luis Robles.
Grella then secured all three points for New York by beating two defenders and slotting his shot past Hall in the first minute of stoppage time.
