NFL Weekend with John Brockway

WEEK 14 GAME PICKS

Last week: 13-3
Season Record: 124-68

TOP GAMES

VIKINGS AT CARDINALS: EACH TEAM HAS AT LEAST A SHARE OF IT’S DIVISION LEAD BUT THESE TEAMS COME IN ON TWO DIFFERENT PATHS. THE VIKINGS ARE COMING OFF THEIR WORST DEFEAT OF THE SEASON AND ARE MISSING SEVERAL KEY PLAYERS ON DEFENSE. THE CARDINALS ARE ROLLING THROUGH TEAMS AND STILL HAVE THE HIGHEST-SCORING OFFENSE IN THE LEAGUE. MINNESOTA WILL NEED TO RUN THE BALL AND CREATE TURNOVERS TO STAY IN THIS ONE. ARIZONA WILL LOOK FOR BIG PLAYS TO PUT THE VIKINGS IN A HOLE EARLY AND FORCE THEM TO ALTER THEIR GAMEPLAN.
PICK: CARDINALS 31-17

BILLS AT EAGLES: THIS IS A MUST-WIN GAME FOR BOTH TEAMS AS ANOTHER LOSS FOR EITHER LIKELY ENDS THEIR SHOT AT THE POSTSEASON. THE BILLS NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A PHILLY DEFENSE THAT GIVES UP BIG PLAYS IN BOTH THE PASSING AND RUNNING GAME. DEFENSIVELY, BUFFALO SHOULD LOOK TO TAKE AWAY THE QUICK-HITTING PLAYS AND FORCE SAM BRADFORD TO MAKE DECISIONS WITH THE BALL. PHILLY’S OFFENSE SHOULD LOOK TO GET IN SPACE AND ATTEMPT TO MAKE BUFFALO MISS TACKLES WITH THEIR BANGED UP DEFENSE. IF THE EAGLES CAN HOLD SAMMY WATKINS AND LESEAN MCCOY SOMEWHAT IN CHECK, THEY COULD SEVERELY LIMIT BUFFALO’S OFFENSE.
PICK: BILLS 27-24

STEELERS AT BENGALS: THE STEELERS HAVE PROVEN TO BE ONE OF THE MOST POTENT OFFENSES IN THE LEAGUE WHEN THEY HAVE A HEALTHY BIG BEN AND THEY’LL FACE A BENGALS DEFENSE WITHOUT SEVERAL KEY PLAYERS IN THE SECONDARY. CINCY MUST WIN THE BATTLE UP FRONT WITH THEIR DEFENSE AND PUSH THE O-LINE BACK INTO ROETHLISBERGER’S FACE. ON OFFENSE THE BENGALS SHOULD LOOK TO ESTABLISH THE RUN BUT TRY THEIR LUCK AT THEIR OWN DEEP SHOTS AGAINST A BELOW-AVERAGE STEELERS SECONDARY.
PICK: STEELERS 30-27

PATRIOTS AT TEXANS: THE PATRIOTS HAVE LOOKED HUMAN AS OF LATE WITH ALL THEIR INJURIES ON OFFENSE REALLY SLOWING THEM DOWN. THAT DOESN’T BODE WELL AS THEY FACE A TEXANS DEFENSE THAT HAS REALLY STEPPED UP THE PAST SIX WEEKS. EXPECT THE PATS TO TRY THEIR TYPICAL SHORT-YARDAGE THROWS WITH THE BACKS AND TIGHT ENDS TO NEUTRALIZE SOME OF THE J.J. WATT LED PASS RUSH. HOUSTON NEEDS TO AVOID BIG MISTAKES AND KEEP DRIVES MOVING ON OFFENSE, THOUGH THEIR INABILITY TO RUN THE BALL CONSISTENTLY COULD PLAY BIG HERE.
PICK: PATRIOTS 28-24

UNDER THE RADAR

GIANTS AT DOLPHINS: THOUGH NEITHER TEAM CURRENTLY SITS IN A PLAYOFF SPOT, BOTH CAN KEEP THEIR HOPES ALIVE WITH A BIG WIN. THE GIANTS DEFENSE HAS BEEN AWFUL MOST OF THE YEAR SO THEIR OFFENSE MUST TRY TO KEEP THEM OFF THE FIELD WITH SUSTAINED DRIVES. MIAMI SHOULD GET THE BALL TO THEIR PLAYMAKERS JARVIS LANDRY AND LAMAR MILLER TO FIND PLENTY OF OPEN SPACE. THEY NEED MORE CONSISTENCY FROM RYAN TANNEHILL TO KEEP THEIR OFFENSE A THREAT IN MULTIPLE WAYS.
PICK: DOLPHINS 26-24
