NFL Weekend with John Brockway

WEEK 12 GAME PICKS

Last week: 10-4
Season Record: 100-60

TOP GAMES

VIKINGS AT FALCONS: THIS IS AN IMPORTANT GAME FOR BOTH TEAMS AS THEY CURRENTLY HOLD THE TWO NFC WILD CARD SPOTS. THE KEY TO A VIKINGS REBOUND FROM A TOUGH PERFORMANCE LAST WEEK WILL BE IMPROVED PLAY FROM THE OFFENSIVE LINE. AFTER GETTING SACKED SIX TIMES LAST WEEK, TEDDY BRIDGEWATER WILL HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO CARRY THE LOAD IN THIS GAME AS THE FALCONS #1 RANKED RUN DEFENSE WILL SURELY LOOK TO STOP ADRIAN PETERSON. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BALL ATLANTA MUST FIND SOMEONE OTHER THAN JULIO JONES TO STEP UP IN THE PASSING GAME AND MATT RYAN MUST STOP TURNING THE BALL OVER.
PICK: VIKINGS 23-21

BILLS AT CHIEFS: BOTH TEAMS COME IN AT 5-5 AND WILL BE LOOKING FOR A HUGE WIN THAT COULD SET SOME TIEBREAKERS COME PLAYOFF TIME. BUFFALO IS A BIT BANGED UP ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL BUT THEIR BEST OPTION WOULD BE USING THEIR RUNNING GAME AND SHORT PASSES TO OFFSET THE PASS RUSH OF THE CHIEFS DEFENSE. THE BILLS NEED TO FIND A WAY TO HAVE SAMMY WATKINS CONTRIBUTE MORE OFTEN AS WELL. THE CHIEFS HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE BEST DEFENSES IN THE LEAGUE OVER THE PAST MONTH. THEY NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB OFFENSIVELY IN THE RED ZONE AND STOP SETTLING FOR FIELD GOALS. TO DO THAT, ALEX SMITH NEEDS TO TAKE MORE CHANCES AND TRUST IN HIS RECEIVERS.
PICK: CHIEFS 21-19

GIANTS AT REDSKINS: THE GIANTS COME IN AT 5-5 AND WASHINGTON COMES IN AT 4-6 AS BOTH TEAMS ARE CLEARLY STILL IN PLAY FOR THE NFC EAST. NEW YORK MUST LOOK TO RELY ON ELI MANNING AND HIS WEAPONS AS THEY FACE THE 30TH RANKED PASS DEFENSE, BUT THEY MUST ALSO RUN THE BALL WELL ENOUGH TO SET UP THEIR PATENTED PLAY-ACTION DEEP BALLS. WASHINGTON NEEDS KIRK COUSINS TO FOLLOW THE SAME SCRIPT HE HAS THUS FAR THIS SEASON AT HOME WHERE HE TAKES BETTER CARE OF THE BALL AND LIMITS HIS MISTAKES. DEFENSIVELY THEY MUST TAKE AWAY THE DEEP BALL AND FORCE ELI TO — USE HIS BACKS AND TIGHT ENDS MORE THAN HIS RECEIVERS.
PICK: GIANTS 31-27

STEELERS AT SEAHAWKS: PITTSBURGH ENTERS THIS GAME JUST IN THE PLAYOFF MIX IN THE AFC WHILE SEATTLE SITS JUST OUTSIDE THE PLAYOFFS IN THE NFC. EACH TEAM COMES IN WITHOUT THEIR STAR RB BUT WITH ADMIRABLE FILL-INS WHO HAVE HAD BIG GAMES AT TIMES. THE KEY FOR THIS GAME WILL BE QB PRESSURE FROM OPPOSING DEFENSIVE LINES AS SEATTLE WILL LOOK TO HIT BIG BEN AND THROW OFF HIS TIMING WHILE THE STEELERS WILL LOOK TO KEEP RUSSELL WILSON IN THE POCKET BY SETTING THE EDGE DEFENSIVELY.
PICK: SEAHAWKS 26-23

PATRIOTS AT BRONCOS: THE PATS HAVE THE LEAGUE’S SECOND HIGHEST-SCORING OFFENSE WHILE THE BRONCOS ALLOW THE FEWEST POINTS IN THE LEAGUE. TOM BRADY HAS A LACK OF TRUST IN HIS REVOLVING-DOOR O-LINE RIGHT NOW AND HAS PLENTY OF INJURIES TO HIS SKILL POSITION PLAYERS. DENVER STILL DOESN’T KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE IN BROCK OSWEILER BUT WILL LIKELY NEED HIM TO MAKE A FEW BIG PLAYS AS THEY RELY ON THAT DEFENSE AND RUNNING GAME. IF BROCK TAKES CARE OF THE BALL AND CAN MANAGE THE GAME, THE BRONCOS COULD WIN THIS ONE.
PICK: BRONCOS 24-23

UNDER THE RADAR

BUCS AT COLTS: EACH TEAM COMES IN AT 5-5 AND SQUARELY IN THEIR RESPECTIVE PLAYOFF MIX. THE COLTS ARE 29TH AGAINST THE PASS AND BUCS QB JAMEIS WINSTON IS COMING OFF HIS BEST GAME AS A PRO. THE BUCS HAVE SOLID SKILL-POSITION PLAYERS THAT CAN MAKE PLAYS WHEN GIVEN THE CHANCE BUT HAVE A LEAKY AND INCONSISTENT O-LINE. INDY SHOULD LOOK TO TAKE SOME CHANCES DOWNFIELD BUT MOSTLY ATTEMPT TO KEEP THIS GAME CLOSE AND HOPE THEIR EVETERANS STEP UP TO MAKE KEY PLAYS.
PICK: BUCS 31-28
