NFL Weekend with John Brockway

WEEK 11 GAME PICKS

Last week: 5-9
Season Record: 90-56

TOP GAMES

COLTS AT FALCONS: INDY COMES IN TIED FOR FIRST IN THE AFC SOUTH DESPITE A LOSING RECORD AND NOW MUST RELY ON THEIR TERRIBLE O-LINE TO PROTECT THE VETERAN QB MATT HASSELBACK. THE FALCONS HAVE THEIR OWN PROBLEMS TO FIX, PARTICULARLY IN THEIR VERTICAL PASSING GAME AND RUN DEFENSE, WHICH HAVE BOTH BEEN LACKING AS OF LATE. EXPECT EACH TEAM TO TRY TO RUN EARLY TO HELP OPEN UP THE PASS. THIS GAME COULD BE HIGH-SCORING WITH THE GAME’S BETTER SECONDARY BEING A MAIN CA– USE FOR THE OUTCOME.
PICK: FALCONS 31-27

JETS AT TEXANS: BOTH TEAMS COME IN WITH LEGITIMATE PLAYOFF HOPES AND QUESTIONS AT THE QB POSITION. RYAN FITZPATRICK HAS A BAD THUMB BUT WILL PLAY FOR THE JETS AND BRIAN HOYER IS LIKELY OUT FOR THE TEXANS. THAT MEANS EACH TEAM WILL LOOK TO RELY ON DEFENSE AND THE RUNNING GAME. THE JETS ARE BETTER IN BOTH AREAS.
PICK: JETS 23-19

PACKERS AT VIKINGS: THIS IS A MATCHUP OF TWO TEAMS GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION AS GREEN BAY HAS LOST THREE STRAIGHT AND MINNESOTA HAS WON FIVE STRAIGHT. THE PACKERS NEED TO FIND A WAY TO REINVIGORATE THEIR RUNNING GAME AND GET RECEIVERS OPEN FOR THE PASSING GAME AND AARON RODGERS TO GET BACK ON TRACK. THE VIKINGS HAVE DONE IT WITH DEFENSE AND THEIR RUN GAME WITH JUST A LITTLE BIT OF TEDDY BRIDGEWATER. GREEN BAY WILL LIKELY LOOK TO FORCE TEDDY TO WIN THE GAME WITH PLAYS DOWN THE FIELD BUT MUST GET PRESSURE ON HIM TO DO SO. MINNESOTA HAS A SOLID RUN DEFENSE AND PASS RUSH SO RODGERS WILL NEED TO GET THE BALL OUT QUICKLY, WHICH COULD BE DIFFICULT.
PICK: PACKERS 24-21

BENGALS AT CARDINALS: CINCY HAS SHOWN SIGNS OF REVERTING BACK TO THE SAME TEAM THAT STRUGGLES IN KEY SITUATIONS AND BIG GAMES AND NEEDS A BIG PERFORMANCE FROM ANDY DALTON TO DO THAT. TO HELP DALTON, THEY MUST RUN THE BALL, PARTICULARLY WITH JEREMY HILL, TO WEAR DOWN THE DEFENSE. ARIZONA HAS A GREAT FORMULA OF MIXING UP THEIR PLAYS ON OFFENSE AND HAVING THE ABILITY TO COME UP WITH KEY STOPS AT THE RIGHT TIME EVEN IF THEIR DEFENSE STRUGGLES TO THAT POINT. EXPECT BOTH QB’S TO HAVE THEIR MOMENTS BUT RIGHT NOW IT’S EASIER TO TRUST CARSON PALMER.
PICK: CARDINALS 27-23

BILLS AT PATRIOTS: BUFFALO IS IN A POSITION TO MAKE A STATEMENT AND SOLIDIFY THEIR CHANCES TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS MILLENNIUM. TO DO THAT THEY NEED TO TAKE AWAY THE WEAPON THAT IS GRONK AND FORCE SOMEONE ELSE TO BEAT THEM. NEW ENGLAND IS A BIT BANGED UP ON OFFENSE WITH NO MORE DION LEWIS OR JULIAN EDELMAN SO LOOK FOR THEM TO RELY MORE ON TWO TIGHT END SETS AND POWER RUNNING SCHEMES. TOM BRADY RIPPED THE BILLS THE FIRST TIME THEY PLAYED AND THOUGH HE LIKELY WON’T HAVE THE SAME KIND OF GAME, IT SHOULD STILL BE PRETTY GOOD.
PICK: PATRIOTS 30-24

UNDER THE RADAR

BUCS AT EAGLES: EACH TEAM COMES IN WITH A SHIT AT THE POSTSEASON DESPITE THEIR STRUGGLES THIS SEASON. TAMPA BAY HAS STEADILY IMPROVED EACH WEEK DESPITE JAMEIS WINSTON MISSING KEY HELP ON OFFENSE. PHILLY HAS ALSO SOMEWHAT IMPROVED THOUGH THEY ARE NOWHERE NEAR WHERE THEY THOUGHT THEY’D BE OFFENSIVELY AND NOW ARE WITHOUT QB SAM BRADFORD. IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN WHETHER MARK SANCHEZ IS ACTUALLY A DOWNGRADE HOWEVER, SO THEY WILL LIKELY RELY ON THE RUNNING GAME AND SHORT PASSING GAME EARLY TO FIGURE IT OUT. THIS GAME WILL COME DOWN TO TURNOVERS AS BOTH QB’S HAVE HAD THEIR ISSUES WITH IT IN THEIR CAREERS AND BOTH DEFENSES HAVE THE ABILITY TO CAPITALIZE.
PICK: EAGLES 27-24
