NFL Weekend with John Brockway

WEEK 8 GAME PICKS

Last week: 9-5
Season Record: 67-38

TOP GAMES

DOLPHINS AT PATRIOTS: THE DOLPHINS HAVE SEEMINGLY TURNED THEIR SEASON AROUND THE LAST TWO WEEKS UNDER NEW HEAD COACH DAN CAMPBELL BUT HAVE DONE SO AGAINST WEAKER COMPETITION. THEY MUST LOOK TO CONTINUE THEIR RECENT FORMULA BY RUNNING THE BALL EFFECTIVELY AND CONTROLLING GAME FLOW. THE PATRIOTS KEEP ROLLING ALONG DESPITE GUYS BEING IN AND OUT OF THE LINEUP. THE OFFENSE IS AS VERSATILE AS EVER WHILE THE DEFENSE HAS PERFORMED SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN MOST THOUGHT IT WOULD. LOOK FOR BRADY TO CONSISTENTLY ATTACK THE MIAMI LINEBACKERS UNDERNEATH, WITH SOLID TACKLING BEING A MUST FOR THE DOLPHINS.
PICK: PATRIOTS 31-21

BENGALS AT STEELERS: THE BENGALS COME OFF THEIR BYE WITH A NICE CUSHION IN THE AFC NORTH BUT NEED ANDY DALTON TO STAY HOT AND PUSH THE BALL DOWN THE FIELD AGAINST A WEAK STEELERS SECONDARY. PITTSBURGH SHOULD GET BEN ROETHLISBERGER BACK THIS WEEK WHICH SHOULD REOPEN THE PLAYMAKING OF ANTONIO BROWN AND COMPANY. THOUGH THE BENGALS OFFENSE HAS BEEN THE STORY MUCH OF THE YEAR, THEIR DEFENSE HAS BEEN GREAT AS WELL AND MUST FORCE BEN TO MOVE AROUND AND TEST HIS HEALING KNEE. THE STEELERS SHOULD LOOK TO HIT SOME BIG PLAYS BUT STILL RELY MOSTLY ON LE’VEON BELL.
PICK: BENGALS 27-23

JETS AT RAIDERS: WITH THE LACK OF DEPTH IN THE AFC THIS MATCHUP COULD BE KEY LATER IN THE SEASON WHEN DETERMINING PLAYOFF SPOTS. THE JETS FORMULA SHOULD BE SIMPLY TO RUN THE BALL, MAKE A FEW BIG PLAYS DOWNFIELD AND AVOID MISTAKES IN BIG SPOTS. THE RAIDERS HAVE PROGRESSED NICELY THIS YEAR AND HAVE SEVERAL YOUNG STARS THE JETS MUST WORRY ABOUT. IF OAKLAND CAN FIND AT LEAST A LITTLE RUNNING GAME WHILE KEEPING THIS GAME SOMEWHAT LOW-SCORING THEY WILL HAVE A DECENT SHOT.
PICK: JETS 23-19

PACKERS AT BRONCOS: IT DOESN’T GET BETTER THAN A MATCHUP OF UNDEFEATED TEAMS BOTH COMING OFF A BYE WITH TWO WEEKS TO PREPARE FOR EACH OTHER. THE PACKERS WILL RELY ON AARON RDOGERS AS USUAL BUT NEED TO SORT OUT THEIR RUNNING GAME AGAINST ONE OF THE BEST RUN DEFENSES IN THE LEAGUE. DENVER ON THE OTHER HAND NEEDS TO FIGURE OUT WAYS TO MAKE PEYTON MANNING MORE COMFORTABLE SO HE STOPS TURNING THE BALL OVER AT AN UNUSUALLY HIGH RATE. WHICHEVER TEAM CAN RUN THE BALL WELL ENOUGH TO KEEP DRIVES ALIVE AND EASE THE PASS RUSH THEIR QB WILL SURELY FACE SHOULD GET THE VICTORY.
PICK: PACKERS 24-20

UNDER THE RADAR

COLTS AT PANTHERS: THE STRUGGLING COLTS GO INTO CAROLINA LOOKING FOR A HUGE VICTORY AGAINST ONE OF THE MOST COMPLETE TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE. INDY’S O-LINE NEEDS TO PROTECT ANDREW LUCK AND LUCK HIMSELF NEEDS TO MAKE BETTER DECISIONS THAN HE HAS THUS FAR THIS SEASON. CAROLINA HAS EVERYTHING A TEAM NEEDS TO BE SUCCESSFUL AS LONG AS CAM NEWTON FIXES HIS OWN TURNOVER ISSUES. LOOK FOR THE PANTHERS TO GET AFTER LUCK HARD AND POUND THE BALL ON OFFENSE.
PICK: PANTHERS 24-17
