NFL Weekend with John Brockway

WEEK 5 GAME PICKS

Last week: 8-7

Season Record: 39-24

TOP GAMES

COLTS AT TEXANS: THE TEXANS HAVE HAD ONE OF THE WORST OVERALL DEFENSES AND LEAST EFFICIENT OFFENSES IN THE LEAGUE THIS SEASON. THEY WILL BE WITHOUT TWO OF THEIR TOP THREE WR’S SO THEY MUST RELY MORE ON THE RECENTLY-RETURNED ARIAN FOSTER AND THE RUNNING GAME. THE COLTS HAVE THEIR OWN INJURY ISSUES AS ANDREW LUCK IS OUT BUT THE COLTS OFFENSE HAS BEEN A MESS EITHER WAY THANKS IN LARGE PART TO AN INEPT OFFENSIVE LINE. THEY MUST GIVE MATT HASSELBECK TIME TO THROW AND OPEN HOLES FOR THE RUNNING GAME TO GET THE COLTS BACK TO WHERE MOST THOUGHT THEY’D BE THIS SEASON.

PICK: COLTS 24-21

SEAHAWKS AT BENGALS: SEATTLE HAS RIGHTED THE SHIP ON DEFENSE SINCE KAM CHANCELLOR’S RETURN TWO WEEKS AGO BUT STILL HASN’T FOUND A WAY TO GET JIMMY GRAHAM MORE INVOLVED ON OFFENSE. R– USEELL WILSON HAS STRUGGLED AT TIMES AND IF THEY’RE WITHOUT MARSHAWN LYNCH AGAIN THIS WEEK THEY COULD STRUGGLE TO MOVE THE BALL AGAINST AN ABOVE-AVERAGE BENGALS DEFENSE. ANDY DALTON HAS HAD THE BEST MONTH OF HIS CAREER SO FAR AND HIS RUNNING GAME HAS STEPPED UP AT TIMES AS WELL. LOOK FOR THE SEATTLE D TO PRESSURE DALTON AND TAKE WAY HIS MAIN WEAPONS.

PICK: SEAHAWKS 18-14

PATRIOTS AT COWBOYS: THE PATS HAVE BEEN RED-HOT ALL SEASON AND ARE WELL-RESTED AS THEY COME OFF A BYE. THE COWBOYS HAVE LOOKED ORDINARY SINCE LOSING TONY ROMO BUT MUST CHALLENGE THE PATRIOT SECONDARY DOWNFIELD TO PUT UP ENOUGH POINTS TO WIN. ROB GRONKOWSKI SHOULD HAVE HIS WAY WITH A BANGED UP DEFENSE AND TOM BRADY WILL SURELY FIND WAYS TO GET OTHERS INVOLVED AS WELL.

PICK: PATRIOTS 34-24

STEELERS AT CHARGERS: THIS IS A KEY MATCHUP OF TWO TEAMS WHO WILL BE FIGHTING FOR THE PLAYOFFS LATER IN THE SEASON. THE STEELERS WILL HAVE HAD EXTRA REST TO GET READY FOR THIS GAME AND GET MICHAEL VICK MORE ACCUSTOMED TO THIS OFFENSE. VICK NEEDS TO FIND HIS PLAYMAKERS MORE SO LOOK FOR LE’VEON BELL AND ANTONIO BROWN TO GET MANY TOUCHES IN THIS GAME. THE CHARGERS HAVE HAD UP-AND-DOWN WEEKS OUT OF THEIR OFFENSE AND NEED SOMEONE TO COMPLEMENT KEENAN ALLEN IN THE PASS GAME. MELVIN GORDON ALSO NEEDS TO STEP UP HIS GAME AGAINST A DEFENSE THAT HAS BEEN SUBPAR MOST OF THIS SEASON.

PICK: CHARGERS 27-24

UNDER THE RADAR

RAMS AT PACKERS: THE MATCHUP TO WATCH HERE IS THE RAMS D-LINE VS THE PACKERS O-LINE AS GETTTING PRESSURE ON AARON RODGERS WILL PLAY A BIG ROLE IN WHETHER THIS GAME IS CLOSE. THE EMERGENCE OF TODD GURLEY AND TAVON AUSTIN HAS GIVEN THE RAMS SOME PLAYMAKERS ON OFFENSE BUT THEY ALSO NEED FOR NICK FOLES TO AVOID KEY MISTAKES TO HAVE A CHANCE. THE GB O-LINE MUST PROTECT RODGERS BETTER THAN LAST WEEK TO ALLOW HIM TO MAKE THE WINNING PLAYS THAT HE USUALLY DOES.

PICK: PACKERS 31-20

THE REST

BILLS AT TITANS PICK: BILLS 27-20

SAINTS AT EAGLES PICK: EAGLES 33-30
