NFL Weekend with John Brockway

NFL WEEK 15 GAME PICKS

Last week: 8-8

Season Record: 132-76TOP GAMES

BILLS AT REDSKINS: BOTH TEAMS COME INTO THIS GAME WITH VOLATILE QB’S WHO SEEM TO EITHER PLAY REALLY WELL OR REALLY POORLY. KIRK COUSINS HAS BEEN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PLAYER AT HOME THAN ON THE ROAD AS HE TURNS IT OVER FAR LESS AND SEEMS TO HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE. THE REDSKINS NEED TO GET AHEAD EARLY TO CONTROL TEMPO AND OFFENSIVE BALANCE. BUFFALO WILL LOOK TO RATTLE COUSINS BUT THEIR DEFENSE NEEDS TO PLAY AT A LEVEL THEY’VE RARELY SEEN THIS YEAR. OFFENSIVELY BUFFALO NEEDS TO EXTEND DRIVES AND AVOID QUICK THREE-AND-OUTS, WHICH COULD ALSO HELP THE DEFENSE BY KEEPING THEM FRESH. LOOK FOR A TON OF LESEAN MCCOY IN THIS GAME THAT COULD REALLY SHAKE UP THE PLAYOFF PICTURE IN BOTH LEAGUES.
PICK: BILLS 27-23

TEXANS AT COLTS: THIS COULD VERY WELL BE THE GAME THAT DECIDES THE AFC SOUTH, THOUGH THE TEAMS LIKELY DIDN’T ENVISION T.J. YATES AND MATT HASSELBECK BEING THE QB’S. YATES HAS HAD TROUBLE WITH TURNOVERS DURING HIS LIMITED CAREER ACTION WHILE HASSELBECK IS FEELING THE EFFECTS OF BEING A 40-YEAR-OLD QB BEHIND A TERRIBLE O-LINE. RUNNING THE BALL AND HAVING RECEIVERS MAKE PLAYS OUT OF NOTHING COULD BE THE KEY HERE. GIVEN THAT HOUSTON HAS THE BEST PLAYMAKER IN DEANDRE HOPKINS AND A FAR BETTER DEFENSE, THEY HAVE TO BE THE PICK HERE.
PICK: TEXANS 26-21

PANTHERS AT GIANTS: CAROLINA KEEPS ROLLING ALONG WITHOUT ANY SIGNIFICANT WARTS IN ANY SPECIFIC AREA, THOUGH THEY WILL BE WITHOUT STAR RB JONATHAN STEWART IN THIS ONE. THE KEY FOR THE GIANTS IS SIMPLY WHETHER ODELL BECKHAM JR. CAN WIN HIS MATCHUP AGAINST STUD CB JOSH NORMAN, WHO HAS SHUT DOWN SEVERAL TOP RECEIVERS THIS SEASON. THE G-MEN PROBABLY WON’T BE ABLE TO RUN THE BALL OR PROTECT ELI MANNING SO A QUICK-HITTING, UP-TEMPO STYLE MAY BE THE BEST BET IN THEIR HOPES FOR AN UPSET. IN THE END, IT’S DOUBTFUL THE GIANTS CAN STOP CAM AND COMPANY ENOUGH TO KEEP IT IN THEIR OWN SCORING RANGE.

PICK: PANTHERS 34-24
BRONCOS AT STEELERS: DENVER IS STILL LOOKING FOR A FIRST-ROUND BYE AND POSSIBLE HOME-FIELD ADVANTAGE FOR THE PLAYOFFS. THE STEELERS ARE STILL FIGHTING FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT AND POSSIBLY EVEN THE DIVISION. THE BRONCOS ARE ONE OF THE BEST DEFENSIVE TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE BUT HAVE STRUGGLED TO RUN THE BALL OR HIT DEEP PLAYS IN THE PASSING GAME AS OF LATE. PITTSBURGH IS ONE OF THE BEST OFFENSIVE TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE BUT IS DREADFUL AGAINST THE PASS IN PARTICULAR ON DEFENSE. THE TEAM THAT PLAYS A MORE COMPLETE GAME ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL AND BETTER ADAPTS TO THEIR OWN WEAKNESSES SHOULD BE THE WINNER.

PICK: BRONCOS 20-17
CARDINALS AT EAGLES: THE CARDINALS HAVE JUST ABOUT LOCKED UP THEIR POSITION IN THE NFC PLAYOFFS BUT STILL HAVE A LITTLE MORE WORK TO DO. THE EAGLES ARE LOCKED IN A WILD NFC EAST BATTLE THAT HAS THEM FIGHTING EVERY WEEK. PHILLY HAS LOOKED MUCH BETTER THE PAST TWO WEEKS, BUT THIS COMES RIGHT AFTER THEY ALLOWED 45 POINTS IN BACK-TO-BACK GAMES, SO IT’S REALLY HARD TO GUESS WHICH TEAM IS EVER GOING TO SHOW UP. ARIZONA IS STEADY ON DEFENSE, BUT IT’S THEIR GROUP OF STAR WR’S AND THE PLAY OF CARSON PALMER THAT DRIVES THEM. IT’S USUALLY SAFE TO PREDICT WHAT YOU WILL GET FROM THEM, BUT IF PHILLY’S DEFENSE PLAYS TO THEIR CAPABILITIES THEY COULD MAKE THIS INTERESTING. TO DO THAT THE DEFENSE NEEDS TO GET ADEQUATE REST PROVIDED BY THE OFFENSE NOT BEING OUT-POSSESSED 3:1.
PICK: CARDINALS 35-27

UNDER THE RADAR

PACKERS AT RAIDERS: GREEN BAY HAS STRUGGLED AT TIMES THIS SEASON BECA– USE THEY HAVEN’T HAD THE CONSISTENT OFFENSE THEY’VE HAD IN RECENT YEARS. IF HAVE SUCCESS IN THEIR RUNNING GAME GOING EARLY THEY CAN OPEN UP MORE SPACE IN THE PASSING GAME AND GENERATE SOME RHTYHM. THE RAIDERS HAVE BEEN SNEAKY THIS YEAR AND HAVE A YOUNG DEFENSE THAT IS STARTING TO GAIN MORE EXPERIENCE AND CONFIDENCE. ON OFFENSE, AMARI COOPER HAS BEEN BATTLING INJURIES AND HAS SOMEWHAT HIT A WALL AS OF LATE. TO PULL OFF THE UPSET AND KEEP THEIR SLIM PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE, OAKLAND NEEDS THEIR YOUNG DEFENSE AND YOUNG SKILL POSITION PLAYERS TO CONTINUE THEIR RPID GROWTH AND HAVE ONE OF THE BEST GAMES OF THEIR YOUNG CAREERS.
PICK: PACKERS 27-20
