(Thursday, July 3)

NEW YORK METS

Final Score: Chicago 6, New York 1

Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Jonathan Herrera drove in three runs and Jake Arrieta dominated the struggling New York offense, as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Mets, 6-1, to complete a three-game series sweep at Citi Field. Miguel Montero added a two-run homer and Starlin Castro added a pair of hits and scored a run for Chicago, which also completed a season sweep of the offensively-inept Mets, winning all seven games. Arrieta (8-5) allowed just one run on five hits in eight innings, striking out seven without walking a batter. The right-hander outdueled his New York counterpart, Jacob deGrom (8-6), who took the loss after allowing four runs — three earned — on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings. DeGrom did account for one of the Mets’ five hits, as the club continues to be offensive offensively. The Mets did end a streak of 22 straight innings without a run, scoring in the third inning of this game, it’s only run in 29 innings of the series.
