Heisey, Reds top Mets

(Saturday, September 6)

Final Score: Cincinnati 2, New York 1

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) – Chris Heisey’s go-ahead home run in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Cincinnati Reds to a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets on Saturday.

Todd Frazier also homered among his two hits and Brayan Pena supplied two hits for the Reds, who bounced back from a 14-5 rout in Friday’s opener of this three-game series to snap a four-game skid.

Johnny Cueto (17-8) surrendered just one run on six hits with eight strikeouts over seven innings of work. He is now tied with Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw for the most wins in the majors with 17.

Dilson Herrera hit an RBI single and Travis d’Arnaud had two doubles with a run scored for New York, which entered the game with three straight wins.

Dillon Gee (6-7) was tagged with the loss after giving up both runs on seven hits with six strikeouts across seven frames.

Heisey came on to pinch hit for Cueto and put the Reds ahead in the seventh with his eighth homer of the season to left for a 2-1 game.

Jumbo Diaz struck out two straight batters to start the eighth and Aroldis Chapman came on to fan the final batter of the frame.

In the ninth, Curtis Granderson hit a one-out single and Eric Young Jr. came on to run for him. Herrera walked and the runners appeared to turn a double steal, but a Reds challenge overturned the call, ruling that Young came off the bag at third and was out. Chapman walked Wilmer Flores, but struck out Eric Campbell to nail down his 30th save of the season.

New York opened the scoring in the second after d’Arnaud hit a leadoff double to center, moved to third on Granderson’s groundout and came home on Herrera’s soft line drive to center that dropped in for an RBI single.

Cueto settled down and retired 13 straight batters before loading the bases with two outs in the sixth off walks to Lucas Duda and Granderson and a d’Anaud double. Cueto, however, struck out Herrera to escape the jam.

The Reds tied the game in the home half on Frazier’s blast to center field, his 25th of the year.
