2017’s Best Cities for Soccer Fans – WalletHub Study

With Atlanta United recently breaking the highest average per-game home attendance record for every major sport except the NFL and the average MLS team today worth $223 million, up from $185 million in 2016, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2017’s Best Cities for Soccer Fans.

To find the best places for loving on the world’s most favorite sport, WalletHub’s analysts compared nearly 300 U.S. cities with at least one college or professional soccer team across six divisions comprising 63 key metrics. The data set ranges from minimum season-ticket price for a game to stadium accessibility to number of championship wins.

Best vs. Worst

  • For MLS, FC Dallas’ performance level, 50.00 percentis 2.4 times better than Chicago Fire’s, 20.59 percent.
     
  • For NWSL, Seattle Reign FC’s performance level, 57.22 percentis 2.9 times better than the Boston Breakers’, 20.00 percent.
     
  • For NASL, the New York Cosmos’ performance level, 51.08 percentis 2.2 times better than Jacksonville Armada FC’s, 22.71 percent.
     
  • Portland, Oregon, has the lowest minimum season-ticket price for an MLS game, $132, which is 3.5 times less expensive than in Seattle, the city with the highest at $456.
     
  • Kansas City, Missouri, has the lowest minimum season-ticket price for an NWSL game, $120, which is 2.3 times less expensive than in Boston, the city with the highest at $275.
     
  • New York has the lowest minimum season-ticket price for an NASL game, $90, which is 3.4 times less expensive than in San Francisco, the city with the highest at $306.
